Reminder...our October FSA meeting is this Thursday, October 6 at 7:30 pm at the Sandy LDS Family Services office. Let me know if you have any questions or want more info!
And, here is why Holly, loves being part of FSA!
"This is such a great opportunity for me to reflect on how FSA has been a part of my life and influenced it for the best. When my husband and I first knew that we were being led down the path of adoption, I was a little scared, had a lot of questions, and so thought of so many unknowns. The first FSA event I participated in was the National Conference in Layton. WOW! That was such an educational experience to learning about adoption. As I heard birth mothers and adoptive parents tell their stories, my heart was filled with love for all who are involved in adoption. My daughter was born less than a month later and I’m so grateful I had that chance to have a broader perspective on adoption, especially open adoption.
I am currently involved as the outreach chair for FSA in Sandy and this past year, I was responsible for scheduling school presentations. A panel of people (a caseworker, adoptive parent, and a birth parent) educate high school and junior high students about what adoption is like now. This has been such a great experience! I love to hear about other adoption stories from different perspectives. And it is neat to be in the classroom with students who didn’t know adoption can be open and let them hear all sides. I feel as I educate this age group, I am in a small way, doing something to help adoption continue, change the way people look at adoption, and show how much adoption has blessed my family!
I love that I am able to associate with great people through FSA! I love being able to ask questions and talk to other families who are going through similar things. I love getting ideas and perspectives from other adoptive moms. The group name says it all: Families Supporting Adoption!"
